Finding the Perfect School
FilmLA is proud to represent several different LA-area school districts. Bringing filming and film parking events to campus provides local schools with much-needed financial benefits and other resources. Finding a school site available for filming is as simple as searching through FilmLA’s web-based location scouting tool, LocoScout, where a complete list of school district locations can be browsed including architectural features and on-campus amenities.
The first step to film at a FilmLA partner school campus or facility is contacting the school directly. The designated school film liaison, usually the principal or assistant principal, will need to approve of your request and confirm availability for filming dates, times, locations, and parking.
FilmLA’s Schools Department has contact information for all school film liaisons. Email us at schools@filmla.com with the name(s) of the schools you are interested in, and we will put you in touch.
Getting Permission to Film
School film liaisons can give verbal consent to the use of their facilities for filming, but permission must still be obtained from officials at the governing school district for the protection of all parties.
To film at any FilmLA partnered school campus or district facility, a fully executed license agreement with the applicable school district and a valid city film permit must both be obtained. In areas where FilmLA serves both the school and the city where it is located, both permissions can be applied for using MyFilmLA.
To film at a school in an area not served by FilmLA, for instance in the City of Burbank, filmmakers will need to apply for a school license in MyFilmLA and independently apply through the non-FilmLA contracted City to obtain a valid film permit.
Campus Filming Requirements
Each school district establishes its own policies allowing filming on campus. These policies outline use and personnel fees, application review timelines, minimal insurance coverage, site monitoring requirements, and more. A list of Campus Filming Requirements for each district served by FilmLA can be found in the FilmLA Knowledge Base.

Security Deposits & Refunds
In addition to valid insurance, every school district served by FilmLA requires a security deposit as protection against damage. The security deposit is held by FilmLA until the district-approved Condition Report is returned by the school. Assuming no damages are noted in the Report, FilmLA will automatically move to process the return of your security deposit. Normally, it takes from four (4) to six (6) weeks to process and return your deposit, after your last date of filming. Deposits will be returned in the form of a check, and mailed to the return address listed on your license application.
