Special Filming Conditions are neighborhood-specific requirements for filming, established originally by the City and County of Los Angeles, inherited by FilmLA, and updated over time by FilmLA and area film permit authorities, in collaboration with community stakeholders. Some Special Filming Conditions have been codified into law; others represent time-tested best practices for keeping filming welcome in local neighborhoods.
Special Filming Conditions are a legacy solution, and FilmLA no longer recommends them as a way to address neighborhood filming concerns. With the introduction of the MyFilmLA permit system in 2021, community notes and guidelines for filming are now stored in FilmLA's GIS mapping application, where they can be reviewed, updated and applied to permits on a narrow, case-by-case basis.
